Supporting Bunnies for Bravehearts at Busy Bees this Easter
For five years, Busy Bees has proudly partnered with Bravehearts to strengthen our commitment to child safety through education, prevention and advocacy.
This Easter, we are once again supporting the Bunnies for Bravehearts project — a heartfelt initiative that raises funds for children engaged in specialist trauma counselling.
Now in its third year, the project has raised almost $84,000 since 2023, helping to support more than 1,300 children and families affected by child sexual abuse.
How Bunnies for Bravehearts raises money
The concept is simple but powerful.
For every donation of $50 or more, Bravehearts gifts a plush toy bunny to a child receiving counselling through their specialist child focused service. These comfort bunnies provide reassurance and security during what is often an incredibly challenging time.
Soft toys can play a meaningful role in therapeutic settings. The tactile and soothing nature of a comfort item can help children feel safe, regulate their emotions and express thoughts and feelings through play. For many children, their bunny becomes a trusted companion both during counselling sessions and at home.
Bravehearts is helping children in real ways
Bravehearts clinicians regularly see the positive difference these bunnies make.
One clinician shared the story of an eight-year-old girl who named her bunny “Bonnie” and incorporated it into her self-regulation strategies. She now sleeps with Bonnie and, when she experiences a nightmare, whispers, “That was a bad dream, I am safe,” before cuddling her bunny back to sleep.
A parent also expressed gratitude, sharing that the comfort bunny “caught all the bad dreams” and became a constant source of reassurance.
These stories highlight the tangible impact of what might seem like a small gesture.
