Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees welcomes you with warm and inviting open-plan rooms, an atelier art workshop, and a spacious outdoor area — with a sandpit, slide, fort, tunnel and climbing wall — where children are encouraged to ignite their sense of curiosity and discovery.
At Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees, your child will benefit from:
Our Gungahlin Childcare focuses on child-centered programs, play-based learning, open-ended inquiry, and exploration of the environment. We consider a child’s family to be their first teachers and are collaborators in all we do. We believe the learning environment acts as the ‘third teacher’ encouraging children to investigate and use their imagination and creativity through play. Our environments reflect the image of children as competent and capable learners who yearn to be challenged. We value the importance of outdoor play all year around and are influenced by the quote: “There is no inappropriate weather, only inappropriate clothing”.
Located near the Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve, our Gungahlin Childcare is nestled among parklands and offers our preschool children local walks to the nature reserve to explore and play. We focus on teaching sustainability and respect for the environment through our compost, worm farm, recycling program, and loose parts play. We are committed to supporting children to develop a strong sense of belonging within our day care centre by acknowledging and valuing children’s connections to their family, community and culture. We are proud to hold an annual end of year art show for families where we showcase the children’s achievements and learning throughout the whole year.
We can’t wait to welcome you to our Busy Bees family. We look forward to meeting your family! Book your tour today.
Service Manager
Hi, my name is Wendy and I’m the Service Manager at Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees. I hold a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and my Diploma in Children’s Services.
Prior to joining Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees, I worked as a Centre Director, Educational Leader and ECT in Canberra for 6 years. I established my career in Early Childhood Education working at various Early Learning centres and preschools in Melbourne and Adelaide.
I’m looking forward to leading a dedicated team who share my belief in the importance of the first five years in a child’s life, and the capabilities of the youngest children who attend Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees. All of us learn throughout our lives; it starts from the day we are born. It’s now recognised that the early years of life are the most important for learning. That’s when the foundations for the future are laid, and when we begin moving down the path that will take us through childhood, the teenage years, and ultimately into adulthood.
Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the Reggio Emilia early childhood programs, called for the rights of children with an unwavering conviction and professed that children must be seen as powerful, competent and resourceful. My aim is to provide an environment that encourages children to truly be themselves and bring what they already know to share with others. Where children learn how to express themselves through many languages and enjoy becoming part of a community that values respect, trust and collaboration.
I am focused on building a strong community of children, Educators and families at Yerrabi Ponds, and am particularly influenced by the principles, philosophy and teachings of the Reggio Emilia School in Italy. The ideas from Reggio Emilia are innovative, complex, intriguing and highly inspiring, yet not always easy to grasp and translate into every day practice. I hope to one day visit the schools in Reggio Emilia to further my understandings and fulfil a dream.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you, alongside the learning community at Yerrabi Ponds.
Assistant Service Manager
Hello, my name is Rebecca and I am the 2IC at Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees. I currently hold a Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education, and I am studying for my Master of Occupational Therapy.
To introduce myself, my family is originally from China while I was born and raised in Canberra. I am a lover of dogs and I own my very own Cavoodle named Maple. Outside of working hours you can find me spending a lot of my time in my other home, which is the library, studying or napping. If not there,
I enjoy immersing myself in nature whether it is long walks or hikes.
I started my career fresh out of university in 2018 as a Kindergarten Teacher for half a year before finding that my passion and interest is within the Early Childhood Education sector. To further this interest, I stepped into the role of an Early Childhood Teacher within a Preschool for a year. In 2020, I found a desire to step further into a management role to advocate for Early Childhood where I started my role as a 2IC at Busy Bees. I have found that this role has allowed me to advocate for both the team and the children. I strongly believe that this sector is overlooked and what is not seen is how vital the early years are for young minds to be fostered and nurtured. Not only that, but the major components of this sector are not acknowledged enough. This includes the children who are capable and competent in their own development and learning, as well as the Educators and Early Childhood Teachers whom are qualified and the Educational programs they create for children foster their overall social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Since my time working at Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees, it has become another home for me. I have grown in confidence working alongside Wendy. Working closely alongside her has inspired me in many ways, including the advocacy she has for Early Childhood and how hard she fights for the team at Yerrabi Ponds by Busy Bees. The way we work almost feels simultaneous where words aren’t needed to be spoken to know exactly what needs to be done. Another big part of why it feels like home is because I am surrounded by a team who inspires me and shares the same passion, which is the love for children.
A significant part of coming into my role is understanding that a big part of what creates our community at Yerrabi Ponds are the families whom are the first teachers of their child. This understanding underpins the value I hold for both children and families to receive the best start and support when transitioning into an Early Learning environment. This all begins from enrolment. I believe that it requires a lot of trust to leave your child within an Early Learning Centre and as a result, this can create lots of emotions. I see my role as an opportunity to build the foundational trust so that families can feel at ease and have a sense of security knowing that their child will be nurtured and loved, and the voices of the families and children are heard and acted upon.
I'm honestly so upset to be leaving. The team are dedicated, passionate and committed to delivering an amazing early learning experience for the children. The educators are kind, loving and committed to delivering high quality educational programs, that take into account the interests and individual needs of the children. I felt safe and confident leaving my children in their care and truly appreciated the fact that they invested the time to get to know my children but also our family.
My daughter also has a life threatening chronic medical condition that requires monitoring and medications during the day. As a parent I was so nervous to let others care for my daughter, but as soon as I met the centre manager and educators I felt this was the place for us and we have never regretted our decision to send her to Yerrabi Pond by Busy Bees.
Many childcare centres don't have this as a practice and it is such a plus for us. The educators here love your kids like their own. Highly recommend this centre!
From being able to help on the front desk in the mornings to assist her settle in the mornings to the learning and fun in the rooms and on local walks. The effort put in to 4, yes 4 progress reports a year blew me away. Thanks to all the staff for all the support and care. We will miss Busy Bees as we head into our next chapter of school.
The staff were always ready to answer any questions and have been so helpful with the process. I can highly recommend the centre. Thank you for everything to do.
I have peace of mind knowing she is happy at the Centre and will be well looked after. The educators give unlimited cuddles and teach good behaviours, as well as regularly rotate in and out different play experiences. The educators always know I want information about my child's eating habits and nap length that day and they always have that information on hand when I pick up my child. Lead Educators share detailed stories about my child on Storypark and strive to make visible my child's learning experiences. I have also observed the lead educator documenting how the children are behaving in order to tweak the care program to better suit the children. The Centre Director and 2IC are communicative and transparent about changes at the centre, including educator changes. They share information in the newsletters about how their work aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework and the childcare centre's values. They also know all the children's names and greet the parents warmly everyday!
You can see the passion she has for the kids and to make the centre the best it can be. It’s so nice to be able to leave my son somewhere I know he’s is going to be well looked after.
The service is light, open and there are beautiful spaces for the children to explore and just be themselves. The educators are friendly and very attentive to the needs of the children and the parents. I couldn't recommended a better centre or centre director.
The centre is always clean, tidy and filled with inspiring learning environments. The outdoor area is large and provides connections to nature and appropriate physical challenges for the children. 100% recommend!
Thank you Yerrabi Ponds educators for making my daughter feel welcome, safe and cared for.
The rooms and the facilities look new and welcoming, with plenty of light and at a good temperature. In the nurseries lately the educators have been exploring playing with recycled material, but there are also plenty of toys and books. Children are given the option to spend time outside whenever the weather conditions allow it. The staff are always available to quickly answer requests, both administrative and on the nature of the education. We strongly recommend having a chat with the manager if you are looking for a child care centre!
Big shout out to all the educators, the heart and soul of the operation. We are always greeted with a smile and stay well informed of the events of the day.
but also has an exceptional director and dedicated educators. The director's leadership and the educators' commitment to providing a nurturing and educational environment truly stand out. I must say, I love everything about the centre, and it brings me immense peace of mind knowing that my child is in such capable hands.
As a parent, you will have a peace of mind leaving your child under the care of their exceptional educators spearheaded by their awesome manager. Our child settled and blended easily with the harmonious environment of the centre because of the caring and supportive educators.
